Free Beer & Hot Wings: 911 Operator Hangs Up On Mother When She Calls For Help with Baby Locked In Hot Car [Video]

A 911 emergency dispatcher in Florida is facing disciplinary action after he handled a call poorly,

Shana Dees, of Tampa, had just left a drug store and was strapping her 10-month-old son into his car seat. Her son, who frequently plays with her keys, happened to be holding them at the time.

After Dees closed the door and started to walk around to get in the car, she realized that her son had hit the lock button. She called 911, fearing that her son would be in trouble due to the temperature quickly rising in the car.

Audio of the 911 call reveals the dispatcher said:

They won’t be able to try to gain access to the car unless the child is in some kind of distress, and, well, by that point they may just smash your windows.”

This didn’t sit well with Davis. An off-duty cop driving by noticed her in distress, so he also called 911 and eventually got them to send an officer out. In the meantime, someone walking by used a wrench to break the glass and get to the child.

Which begs the question: If the mother was so worried about her child, why didn’t she just smash the glass in the first place instead of waiting for the cops to show up? Yes, the dispatcher handled it incorrectly, but there were other options.
