Former Weezer Bass Player Found Dead

Mikey Welsh, former bass player for Weezer, was found dead Saturday night in a Chicago hotel room. There has been no official cause of death as of yet, but the police are saying it looks like a lot like a drug overdose. He was in Chicago to see his former band mates play at Chicago’s RIOTfest.

Mikey quit the band in 2001 after suffering a “nervous breakdown.”

The band remembered Welsh as vital chapter to their history and one to never “shy away from the absurd, dangerous or strange,” according to a statement on Weezer’s website.

Here he is playing with the band back in 2001.
