Heavy rain crashed down upon the Shreveport-Bossier area this afternoon, leading to localized flash flooding all across the area. Streets flooded as drainage pipes overflowed, parking lots turned into ponds, and drivers struggled to keep their vehicles on the road all over the area.

Homes and yards were not immune today either. We didn't see property damage levels, but the speed the water started rising was disconcerting at best.

Although the usual rule-of-thumb is to avoid driving through deep water on roadways, some areas it became quickly unavoidable. Including parking lots, like this one in front of Wal-Mart, near Pines Rd on the West side of Shreveport

This isn't a happy sight for our area, or the state, since over the last month we have witnessed the greatest natural disaster since "Super Storm Sandy" devastated the Northern East Coast. Our state has struggled with 3-4 "100 Year Floods" in the last 2 years alone, and we're on the doorstep of observing the anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. Not to mention there's definite concern for some of the tropic storms churning in the Ocean right now.
