At a 10am news conference came word that a coalition of area fire department’s decided to ban the sale and use of fireworks through the end of the month for Bossier Parishes AND the City of Shreveport.

That coalition includes both the Shreveport and Bossier City Fire Departments, and the parishes of Bossier and Webster.  Representatives of each agency was present at the announcement.

For now, the ban is in effect through the end of June, with a reassesment planned by then for the remainder of the 4th of July Holiday season.

Caddo Parish is not a part of this group that has made this decision.  KEEL News has sent a request for Caddo’s stance on the issue, and is awaiting word back.

In the news conference, Shreveport Fire Chief Brian Crawford contended that the drought conditions we’re experiencing here in Northwest Louisiana make it unsafe to use fireworks, at this time.

So if you want to buy and light fireworks for the 4th you will want to go to N Caddo Parish, Desoto Parish or Webster parish...If you do light them off in the banned areas and  law enforcement is called more than once to the same location, citations will be issued.

As far as the public displays..For now there will be no display at LA downs and there will be a display in Shreveport on the Red river.
