Chimp Haven is one of the hidden treasures of the Ark-La-Tex.  Since it is a sanctuary for retired research chimpanzees and those that were kept as pets or entertainers, it's rarely open to the public.

That's why Saturday, April 22nd, is a special day.  It's a Chimp Haven Discovery Day, one of the few days each year where the public is invited to experience Chimp Haven for themselves.  The hours are 9:00am to 1:00pm.

The sanctuary is partially funded by the government, but the National Institutes Of Health require Chimp Haven to match at least 10% of construction costs, and 25% of operating costs.  The government does not pay any of the cost of care for chimpanzees who were not retired from government research institutions, such as chimpanzees who were once kept as pets.  Those costs are entirely funded by private donations.

So, you can help support Chimp Haven when you attend Discovery Day on April 22nd.  Admission is $10 for adults 13 and over, $6 for children 6-12, and children 5 and under are free.
