June 6, 1944 is a very important day in the history of our country. This is D-Day, the day thousands of allied forces stormed the beaches at Normandy, France.

Thousands died during the 2 month battle and it was a particularly bloody day on day one. Some millennials might know the day from "Saving Private Ryan", but most have no clue.

We brought Ginger from the "Morning Madhouse" on K-945 in to see if she knew what today is. She's 23 and I thought she might get it after 5 guesses. Robert didn't think she would know what the day was.

Here's our convo with Ginger:

D-Day kicked off the Battle of Normandy which lasted from June 1944 to August 1944. This battle led to the liberation of Western Europe from Germany’s control.

More than 150,000 American, British and Canadian forces landed on five beaches along a 50-mile stretch of the heavily fortified coast of France’s Normandy region. The Normandy landings have been called the beginning of the end of war in Europe.

This is a clip from the 10 part miniseries WWII, which was originally aired on the History Channel in 2009. This is General Dwight D. Eisenhower's speech to the troops:

More than 400,000 Allied and German troops were killed or wounded during the Battle of Normandy.
