One of the more eagerly anticipated albums of 2015 is the upcoming Deftones album, and fans will likely reach new heights of frenzy after hearing this news. The disc will include a guest turn from Alice in Chains vocalist-guitarist Jerry Cantrell.

Frontman Chino Moreno confirmed the news to 92.3 KOMP-FM hosts Carlota and Sparks during an interview at this weekend's Rock in Rio USA Festival. The hosts had been tipped off by Cantrell prior to speaking with Moreno and the vocalist revealed how the guest spot came about.

"He came in and there's this one track and in the demo stages, I was like there's this hole in there," says Moreno. "And in Deftones songs there's not really any guitar solos per se, but there is a section in there that is not typically a solo, but it had an area where it could use something like he does, especially his style and just the way he plays guitar. So I sent him the track and he sent it back like two days later. So when we recorded the song, he came in and laid it down."

The vocalist added, "It's just awesome. You're hearing a Deftones song, but then a little bit of Alice in Chains and it's kind of neat. Me, as a fan, I was just kicked back with a little tear coming out of my eye."

Fans may remember Deftones toured with Alice in Chains a few years back on the "Black Diamond Skye" tour that also featured Mastodon.

Moreno revealed that the band are in the final stages of completing their next disc, which is expected this fall, and like recent albums, it started with the band convening in the studio and working from scratch. The vocalist concludes, "The challenge of going into the unknown is I think what makes it fun for us to still make records."
