Death Row Inmate Gets New Trial
Rodricus Crawford, a Shreveport man who was on Death Row after being convicted of beating and smothering his baby in 2012, has been granted a new trial by the Louisiana State Supreme Court.
Crawford's case received national attention after an article published in the New Yorker magazine had medical experts claim the baby could have actually died from pneumonia.
In light of the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Crawford's conviction, the Caddo DA's office issues the following statement:
In light of this opinion of the Louisiana Supreme Court, including the dissenting opinions of justices of the Louisiana Supreme Court to acquit the defendant of the charge, the Caddo Parish District Attorney will reassign the case to a new assistant district attorney for re-evaluation of case in order to make a determination of a proper course of action to proceed forward in this matter. Since the matter is now a pending matter before the court, this office will not make any further comment at this time.
