Dave Grohl took home his second Grammy of the day, this time winning for Best Rock Song at the 2014 Grammy Awards for ‘Cut Me Some Slack’ with his collaborators Paul McCartney, Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear. The song comes from the ‘Sound City: Real to Reel’ soundtrack, which won earlier in the day for Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media.

The foursome, affectionately nicknamed as Sirvana in the media, bested Gary Clark Jr.’s ‘Ain’t Messin’ ‘Round,’ The Rolling Stones‘ ‘Doom & Gloom,’ Black Sabbath‘s ‘God Is Dead?’ and Muse‘s ‘Panic Station’ for the Best Rock Song Honor.

All four members that played on the song took the stage to accept. Grohl started, “I have to say we wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for Paul and for Ringo,” while Novoselic added, “And for Black Sabbath and the Rolling Stones.”

Grohl continued, “That’s right! This song was two hours in my studio. I called up Paul and said, ‘Hey man, do you wanna come over and jam with some friends of mine.’ And he came over to the studio and we knocked this out in a couple hours. To me, that’s what rock n’ roll is all about. Thank you everyone from our Sound City family.’

McCartney stated, “Yeah, he’s right. ‘He said to me, ‘Come along and we’ll do a jam on ‘Long Tall Sally.’ I said, ‘No, we’ve been there, we’ve done that. We should just make something up.’ And this is it.’

Stay tuned for more Grammy updates throughout the evening.
