Customer Service is Back!!

Over the last 10 years, companies have been outsourcing there customer service jobs overseas to save money. But now that the economy is in the toilet, companies are realizing that although the outsourcing is cheaper, you can make more money by bringing those jobs home and connecting with the customers on a more personal level. I’ve taken several business coursed and worked different jobs that involved one on one time with customers and from each experience I can’t stress  the importance of having a good customer relationship enough. Even if you just answer their questions in an agreeable, mannerly, and smiling way (regardless of not even knowing what you’re talking about) they really appreciate it and will come back because of it. I digress. These companies are calling this homesourcing and the American people like it because it’s creating jobs in the states and they know that they are talking to a fellow American who actually understands what they are saying. Now these jobs are only paying about eight bucks an hour so they generally appeal to college students and retirees who have a more flexible schedule to work with. Some of the more technical jobs pay up to twenty five bucks an hour and a benefit is that you can work from home and set your own hours.  This is the way customer service is supposed to be. We’ve all been in one of those situations where we ordered something online, or called about a credit card, or needed some kind of tech support, and we get some foreigner who speaks as if they have a bag of marshmallows in their mouth and their attitude is crappy because they generally have a disliking for Americans. It’s completely frustrating and half the time it gets me so pissed off that I am ready to jump on a plane and take a 15 hour flight to wherever they live and beat seven shades of $&*% out of them. But it looks like this is going to be a thing of the past. With more and more companies bringing these jobs home, it won’t be long before you hear a friendly and easily understandable voice on the other end of the line the next time you need help with something. I say this because these people are simply happy to have a job in a time where jobs are few and far between. So Goodbye Gupta!! We will miss the way you screw up words like “the” and “yes” and begin screaming in your native tongue when we get upset at you for not being able to comprehend what we are saying.
