The Caddo School Board has voted to move forward with the plan to consolidate two local high schools. A large crowd showed up for the meeting to talk about the proposal to merge Fair Park with Booker T. Washington High School.

Fair Park parents, students and alumni voiced strong objections to to plan to convert Fair Park into a middle school and send the high school students to BTW. But several board members say something must be done with Fair Park by the end of this school year because of the schools poor performance. The school is in jeopardy of being taken over by the state as part of the Recovery School District.

The Board did talk about delaying action for 60 days, but that idea failed. Board members say there is just no time to waste, since the state could take over the local school once this school year ends.

Fair Park has had an "F" rating for more than a decade. This merger would combine resources and save money.

This merger still requires the approval from the state.
