BSO Flooding Update: More Evacuations Due to Rising Red River

Bossier sheriff's officials have sent out updates on the Red River flooding situation.

The National Weather Service is now predicting the river will crest to 34.5 feet by the weekend, the same crest as the 1990 flood. That's led Sheriff Julian Whittington to recommend an evacuation of residents in the River Bluff subdivision. Electricity has also been cut off to that neighborhood.

Sheriff Whittington says Cash Point RV Park is also under a recommended evacuation, primarily due to an impassable road at the north end of the park and a loss of power to the sewage system. Water is not on main roadways in the south part of the park right now, but it's very close to residences along the river.

City and parish officials met today with Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness Director Kevin Davis and Adjutant General for the Louisiana National Guard Maj. Gen. Glenn Curtis. The group visited the Arthur RAy Teague parkway sheriff's substation and boat launch, which clearly show just how high the water is rising.

"I want to compliment the sheriff, the mayor, the parish officials...they are prepared," Davis said in a news release. "You need to listen to them over the next couple of days."

A shelter remains in place at Elm Grove Elementary School, and residents can get sandbags there, as well. They're also available at the Bossier Parish Highway Department Maintenance Barn and Bossier City Public Service Complex.
