UPDATE, August 6, 9:38AM: Chief Willie Shaw at the press conference confirmed that the officer that was slain was Thomas LaValley. He was shot multiple times by one Grover Cannon, who is still on the run.

 

UPDATE, August 6, 8:01AM: Shreveport Police Lt. Bill Gooden tells KEEL News the officer was alone when he responded to a suspicious person call from a woman at a home on Del Rio in the Queensborough neighborhood. Gooden tells us the officer was shot several times. He was transported to University Health where he was pronounced dead.

Several reports are now in about the suspect. A warrant has been issued for the arrest of 27-year-old Grover "Graveyard" Cannon. He is also wanted for an attempted second murder charge from a shooting last month in the same neighborhood.

 

UPDATE, August 6, 1:14AM:  Shreveport Mayor Ollie Tyler has released the following statement regarding the officer shot and killed last night:

Our hearts are saddened,” said Mayor Tyler. “We ask for the community’s prayers for this officer’s family and SPD as we grieve the loss of one of our own who paid the ultimate sacrifice while serving and protecting the citizens of this city.”

UPDATE, August 6, 1:08AM:  The search for the suspect who shot and killed a police officer continues. Talking with KTBS 3 News, Police Corporal Marcus Hines had this message for the gunman:

"We will find you. And when we find you, you will be prosecuted. You...you sleep on that."


UPDATE: Shreveport police confirm the officer wounded in Queensborough has died at University Health. The search for the gunman continues.

Police are searching houses the suspect is known to visit. They have the area blocked off. Caddo Sheriff's Office deputies and other law enforcement agencies are also assisting.


ORIGINAL STORY:  More than 60 police units are on the scene of a shooting that we're told has left a Shreveport officer critically wounded.

The officer was reportedly looking for a prowler at Lakeshore Elementary in the 3500 block of Del Rio Street before being shot. The officer was taken to the hospital with a serious head wound.

Police are on the hunt for a suspect. This is a developing story and we'll bring you more details as soon as we get them.
