Bossier Sheriff's deputies have arrested a local man for beating up his live-in girlfriend over the weekend.

According to the sheriff's office, 39-year-old Jason Hull went on a nearly 24-hour beating spree of his girlfriend from Friday night into Saturday night at the couple's home in the 5000 block of Tensas. Detectives say he punched her with a closed fist several times in the head and mouth, bit her face and leg, choked her and threw her to the ground. She lost consciousness several times during the beating and was finally able to escape the home Saturday night.

Detectives secured an arrest warrant for Hull, charging him with second degree battery domestic violence and possessing meth, after deputies found a white, powdery substance in the home that tested positive for methamphetamine.

"Domestic violence is such a cruel crime in which victims often feel helpless and don't know what to do," said Bossier Parish Sheriff Julian Whittington in a news release. "Our deputies do a phenomenal job investigating these cases, making the appropriate charges, and providing assistance to the victims."

Sheriff Whittington also referenced the recently-opened Northwest Louisiana Family Justice Center, which assists victims of domestic violence. There, they can get counseling, talk with law enforcement officers, obtain protective orders and receive medical assistance and housing information.

"Domestic violence is one of those things that people don't want to talk about, but we recognize that it is here," said Bossier-Webster District Attorney J. Schuyler Marvin. "We want to give every victim a chance to get back on their feet."

Hull has been booked into the Bossier Maximum Security Facility. He's awaiting bond.
