Knock Knock is a pretty terrible movie that not even Keanu Reeves could redeem — though it wasn’t entirely bad. One of the (very) few good things about Eli Roth’s 2015 thriller is Ana de Armas, the charming Cuban actress who made the film somewhat watchable. Luckily, her next project probably won’t need any help in that department, but it’s definitely a huge step up from her most recent roles.

Alcon Entertainment has officially announced the casting of Ana de Armas in Blade Runner 2, the long-developing sequel to Ridley Scott’s sci-fi classic. Denis Villeneuve (Sicario) is directing the film, which features Harrison Ford reprising the role of Deckard opposite Ryan Gosling, Robin Wright and Dave Bautista. Plot and character specifics are scarce, but de Armas’ casting immediately calls to mind Daryl Hannah’s role as the replicant Pris in the original 1982 film.

In addition to Knock Knock, de Armas starred opposite Keanu Reeves in last year’s similarly disappointing thriller Exposed, and appears next in Todd Phillips’ War Dogs with Miles Teller and Jonah Hill.

Villeneuve is directing Blade Runner 2 from a screenplay by Michael Green and original Blade Runner scribe Hampton Fancher. As many expected, the sequel was recently moved up from its January 2018 release to October 6, 2017, putting it at the start of next year’s awards season.
