After a long couple of days of Mardi Gras activities, the Krewe of Barkus and Meoux Jazz Brunch was a fantastic way to wrap up the weekend! As you probably know, I'm a huge animal lover and the Krewe of Barkus and Meoux do incredible things in our community for the pet population. In fact, their human royal court serves their furry royal court! This past Sunday, they presented their human court at their Jazz Brunch at the El Dorado Casino. The event was hosted by Andy Shehee and Father Paul provided the Blessing. The event not only featured a live band, but a fantastic brunch with complimentary champagne mimosas! There was also a silent auction. I was the proud winner of a framed print called The Paddock! Mission Captain Barbara Rice knew what she was doing when she added 'horse' themed items to the auction:)

This event is in preparation of the krewe choosing this year's animal royalty at the Royalty Raffle this coming Sunday at Petco, 6596 Youree Drive in Shreveport starting at 2pm. Your pet can be royalty at the parade. Pete John of Raising Cane's is the Grand Marshall. Signup is at the event and registration is $15 for your first pet, $10 for additional.  Royal Raffle chances are $1 each. Come and stuff the ballot box for your pet to be King or Queen. We'll be talking to Duchess Crystal this Friday about the event so make sure to listen!

FYI, the Barkus and Meoux Pet Parade is Sunday, February 3rd at Riverview Park across from SciPort. The theme is “Stars, Guitars, and Animals from Mars.” Registration is at 1:30 p.m. and the parade rolls at 3:00 p.m. The cost to enter parade is $20.
