Beware of Darkness. Are they named after the Spock's Beard album or the George Harrison song? Or none of the above? I have no idea, as information on the band seems to be as rare as Lindsay Lohan sobriety chips. What I can tell you is that the band was formed in L.A. by singer/guitarist Kyle Nicolaides and drummer Tony Cupito in 2010. They went through several bass players before meeting Daniel Curcio, who became a permanent part of the band. They played SXSW earlier this year, and released a four-track E.P. entitled "Howl" shortly afterwards. The E.P. is available through iTunes or at their live performances. They are currently signed to Bright Antenna Records, and hope to release their debut album, Orthodox, sometime late this year. According to the propaganda on their youtube page,

Beware of Darkness is a bold, new power-trio of old souls, pissed at life in a modern age. They are ready to frighten your children, sleep with your daughters, and make you shake, scream, and contort like it's a Depression-Era, Southern exorcism. They play fast moving rock songs with exploding key and rhythm changes mid-song. They also play slow-cooked, sexed-up bluesy things. Imagine Bowie's "Hunky Dory" with low, detuned, primal Zeppelin-esqe guitar riffs.

If I had to compare them to other bands, I'd toss out The Black Keys, Jack White, The Parlor Mob, or the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.

All that aside, I think they f-ing ROCK, and if everything falls together as it should, Beware of Darkness is a band that we'll be hearing about for a long time.
