Zakk Wylde was roasted last night (Jan. 20) at the first-ever Guitar World Roast and guess what? He survived, if a little singed. But was there ever any doubt that the guitarist would take it like a man? He was subjected to barbs and punishment for two hours in Anaheim, Calif., as a variety of musicians, metalheads and comedians took shots at him. He may have been burnt to a crisp, but he still managed to hurl his own jokes at those who roasted him.
It had been well over a year since Tool took the stage to perform but the absence from live playing is over. The band kicked off its brief winter run over the weekend in Reno, Nev., performing a set list filled to the brim with classics and fan favorites.
Is there anything as infinitely cool as a presidential “candidate” who skateboards? Sure, it was hip when Bill Clinton was running for the highest elected office in the country and played the sax on late night TV shows, letting the country see his lighter, more human side. But Generation Y has its own vocal anti-hero and it’s D. Randall Blythe of Lamb of God. Blythe just released his first “presidential campaign ad” and it’s enough to make the youth of today wish he really was a legit candidate so fans could pull the lever in his favor in November.
The metal community was rocked earlier this week by the revelation that Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi was suffering from lymphoma. His diagnosis came right in the middle of Black Sabbath’s comeback trail, which includes a new album and touring. A flood of support from fans and fellow musicians followed the announcement of his illness. Now, the legendary axeman has issued his first personal statement on the matter.
Call it a comeback of a comeback! After Alice in Chains‘ 2009 effort ‘Black Gives Way to Blue’ landed Grammy nominations and enjoyed healthy sales amid the debut of new singer William Duvall, who replaced the late, great Layne Staley, the band is currently writing new material and working on the follow up. AIC should enter the studio early this year.
Tough news to report, as Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi has been diagnosed with lymphoma, which is a cancer that forms in the lymph nodes. The good news is that it’s been caught in the early stages and the guitar deity is currently in discussions with his doctors to determine the best course of treatment to fight the disease.

Italian melodic metallers Lacuna Coil have been incredibly generous, sharing updates and footage of the creative process for several months leading up to their new album ‘Dark Adrenaline,’ the release date of which is right around the corner. In the footage posted below, head-turning singer Cristina Scabbia and her mates stand in front of a mic in the studio to discuss the history of the facility and possible paranormal activity that may have taken place during the recording process.
The track listing for Van Halen‘s much anticipated ‘A Different Kind of Truth,’ the first album fronted by David Lee Roth in three decades, has leaked to the web. It was only a matter of time before song titles were revealed, given all the hoopla surrounding the album, due out Feb. 7. In the past few days, VH have shared details about their upcoming tour and album. It’s starting to feel like we live on Planet Van Halen and that’s never a bad thing.

He recalled his early days in the band while the band was on its current U.S tour.
