If you had told me 10 years ago that I would be married with two kids at 28 I flat-out would have laughed in your face. I would have laughed even harder if you had told me those two kids would be step-kids. And yet, here I am coming up on Father's Day with my heart filled with anticipation of what hand made awesome card two rascally boys are going to give me!

Father's Day can be a strange time for step-fathers. Unlike traditional families you may not even get to see your step kids on Father's Day. But you always have to remember that you as a step parent matter, and still do all the things a normal parent would regularly do. I myself, have felt the parental joys of playing Santa Claus, teaching them how to ride bikes, taking care of minor injuries, and even the simple joys of making them breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

This Father's day let's not discount the importance of step-fathers. We can be just as helpful, loving, and caring as a real parent AND we have taken on the responsibility with pride and honor even though they are not biologically ours. My boys may be like a hurricane fighting a tornado when they are together, but I wouldn't trade one second of that for all the money in the world!

Happy Father's Day!
