Little did Nirvana fans in Munich, Germany know...but, when the band took the stage at Terminal 1 on March 1st, 1994, it would be for the last time.

It would have been great if that particular night's show would have been an over-the-top showcase for Nirvana, a flawless performance that would leave us with a "they went out on top" feeling...

No such luck. Nirvana’s final show ever was a complete disaster.

Things started out with Nirvana playing a goofy cover of “My Best Friend’s Girl” by the Cars. Interesting, but a rather weak start to a show from the band that many consider a genre changing phenomenon. A couple of songs in, Kurt Cobain’s voice began to give out, due bronchitis, and if that weren't enough to dampen his - and the crowd's - spirits, during “Come As You Are,” the sixth song of the night, the power went out.

Nirvana, determined to give the crowd a show, continued with an unplugged version of their set until the power came back on - but according to Consequences of Sound,

“Cobain’s voice strained through the rest of the [show] before it mercifully ended with a wrenching rendition of ‘Heart Shaped Box.’ The whole show lasted 80 minutes, the shortest of that European tour. Immediately afterwards, Cobain was diagnosed with bronchitis and laryngitis.”

The rest of the tour was cancelled, and on April 5th, Kurt Cobain was found dead in his Seattle home.
