Tragedy on the water in the Arklatex. Two East Texas Baptist University students drowned while swimming in an off-campus pond.

20-year old Darrian "DJ" McClintock and 19-year old Norvontre "Trey" Harrison were students and football players at East Texas Baptist University. Harrison was a graduate of Byrd High School in Shreveport.

A dive team from Longview recovered the swimmers.

Police say the pond is a popular swim spot for Marshall youngsters.

ETBU President J. Blair Blackburn issued this statement:

"The ETBU Family lifts up these families, our students, faculty, and staff in prayer. As a Christ-centered community, we rely on our faith in God and hope in Christ to sustain us during this difficult time. I ask that you please encircle our students, families, and our University Family in your prayers for God to bring comfort and peace to all of us who have been devastated by the tragic loss of these two fine Christian young men."

A school wide Chapel Service will be held Friday April 29th at 10 am in the Baker Chapel at the school.
