I've started to experience this a lot, and others have dealt with it longer than I have, but sometimes when I look at the year a song was released, I can feel the cold chill of mortality sweep up my spine.

I had the pleasure of working in Modern Rock radio 10 years ago. We had a great station, mostly because the sonic relationship between mainstream rock and alternative rock was so good. Everything was balanced. Which helped to bring us some great bands and songs.

Like these guys who showed up in late 2005. The Arctic Monkeys dropped "I Bet You Look Good On The Dance Floor" and our station immediately started crushing it.

But for US fans, the band went away as fast as they showed up. The sound that they championed, alongside bands like The Strokes and Franz Ferdinand, started to slow down on this side of the pond. They really didn't find mainstream success in the US again until the 2012 release of their album AM, which spawned songs like "R U Mine?" and "Do I Wanna Know".
